community Pennsylvania artist
story Loretta Orr was born in Altoona, PA, and presently lives in Center Township near Aliquippa ,PA. She has one daughter, Katie, 28, who currently lives in Boston and is working on her master's degree in Journalism. Loretta taught art in the Center Area School District, now the Central Valley School District, for 34 years. In 2007 she retired to pursue her painting, photography and other artistic interests. Earlier in her art career, she was commissioned by the Center Area School District to do two portraits of former superintendents, one of which still hangs in the high school lobby. She has also worked in pencil, and painted some landscapes of well known places in her local area. Loretta has sold her photography and photo cards in a local shop, and has had some of her photos of Beaver County published in an issue of Pittsburgh Magazine. Loretta belongs to The Sweetwater Arts Center in Sewickley, PA, and is a member of the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts. For the past 5 years, Loretta has been developing her use of color in the contemporary art arena, to achieve vibrant colors in her work. She is currently working on acrylic paintings that often combine elements of both realism and expressionism. Loretta's goal is to create stimulating artworks that are both fun and an interesting study for those who are connoisseurs of this art style. Loretta has always loved drawing and painting portraits and creating different personalities. She is currently working on several different series of paintings including Women in Hats, Animals, Dancers, and Swimsuit Models, just to name a few. She has several new ideas in the works, as well. She likes to add a touch of texture, a lot of detail, and sometimes a feel for another era combined with her more current work style. “God has blessed me with a talent that brings me so much joy and I hope my work helps to brighten the lives of others. If nothing else it is light-hearted fun, and we all need a touch of that in our world.” Loretta Orr
