| story | The Japanese word "origami" is a compound of two smaller Japanese words: "ori", meaning fold, and "gami", meaning paper.
Japanese origami began in the 6th century when Buddhist monks from China carried paper to Japan. The first Japanese origami is dated from this period and was originally used for religious ceremonial purposes. By the 1700s, origami had become more widespread , and in 1797 the first known origami book was published in Japan. St. Francis House in Boston provdes this artist with a hot meal, a warm corner and leftover papers to create origami. |
